K Cups Coffee Pros And Cons

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Hi! I recently surf in the net and found very honest and understandable conclusion about K Cups Coffee pros and cons.

Do you know what a Kcup is?  Maybe you do, maybe you don’t, but by the time you finish reading this, you will know more about K-cups than most people do!  Kcups are the ammunition for the Keurig single serve coffee brewer.  The concept and design were birthed by Green Mountain Coffee in Vermont.  These brewers pump out one cup of coffee at a time, and they do it by way of a unique brewing cup, known as the Kcup.  Each Kcup holds a single serving of coffee grounds, and a filter that is nestled inside of a cocoon of plastic and tinfoil.  The Kcup is placed inside of the brewer and when the brewer lid is closed, a metal spout pierces the foil lid of the kcup.  Hot water is then injected into the K cup and out comes the coffee.  Seems like an ingenious concept.  The Keurig brewers are enjoying a huge wave of popularity, with the estimated total sale of Kcups to be in excess of 5 billion units this year!  But is the Kcup the right choice for your daily brew?  Here are some pros and cons to help you decide…

Pros

  • Convenience – The K cup offers single serve coffee in a flash.  What could be easier than inserting a pre-measured Kcup capsule and shutting the lid?
  • Cleanup – Simply remove the spent Kcup and dispose of it into the trash.
  • Prep time – No beans to grind, coffee to measure, or pre-brewing mess to clean.
  • Precise measure -  This is where %80 of coffee drinkers go wrong.  Many folks use far less coffee than they should when brewing.  The Keurig brewing method eliminates this problem.

 Cons

  • Quality of Coffee – While the coffee in a Kcup is superior to other mass produced grocery store ground coffees, it is less than fresh.  K cups are airtight and fresh roasted coffee emits CO2 for 2 weeks after the roasting process.  If the coffee in the Kcup was fresh, they would explode.  The aging process of coffee is expedited when it is ground.  Whole bean coffee can last for weeks, while ground coffee will only remain fresh for minutes.
  • Control – There is no arguing the convenience of the Keurig brewer, but with convenience comes the loss of control.  You cannot alter the grind, water temperature, dosage, or steep time with the Keurig.
  • Cost – Kcup coffees cost about $1.50 $.80 per serving.  That is equivalent to paying $55 $30 per pound!  For that price you could enjoy some of the most exotic coffees the world has to offer for less than the mass produced Kcups.
  • Waste – Kcups are largely made of non-recyclable plastic.  While developed by a company that prides itself on their ‘Green’ image, this isn’t a ‘green’ method of coffee brewing…unless you are talking ‘greenbacks’.

Some of the cons can be eliminated with the use of the MyKcup ( a brewing basket that fits into the Keurig which you can fill with your own fresh ground coffee), but in doing so you also eliminate many of the ‘pros’.

So there you have it.  The pros and cons of the Keurig brewing system as I see it.  For me personally, I do not enjoy the Keurig brewing system, but I can see its attraction.  It does provide a simple way to make one cup at a time, and does produce a better cup than what the majority of coffee drinkers presently subject themselves to.  The bottom line is that you must choose for yourself what you want in your daily cup.  For many the Keurig is the answer, but much better can be had if you are willing to take a few extra minutes.

Despite some disadvantages, comfort and great coffee and tea selection, K Cups Coffee Maker is a smart and convenient choice.

How We Discovered the Single Cup Coffee Maker

Monday, August 1st, 2011

My family is pretty much just like most other normal American families. We enjoy our kids, work hard and try to enjoy our time off with family and friends. We’ve always enjoyed a great cup of coffee in the morning and maybe even after dinner. For years we did what everyone else did, buy ground coffee brands, dump the grounds in a filter, stick it in the brewer and wait for 8 cups or so to pour through. Then we started buying whole beans, which required the purchase of a grinder. Fun for a while, but messy.

Then one evening my wife and I were at a friend’s house for dinner and they offered us a cup. When asked what I preferred I just indicated that I would have whatever everyone else wanted. Our friend opened the cupboard and showed us a variety of small cups, each packed with enough coffee for a single cup… dark roasts, breakfast blends, you name it. She then pointed to the corner of the kitchen and introduced us to the single cup coffee maker. I subsequently learned that this was a Keurig model. One of several made by folks that invented what is called the “K Cup” system.

The next morning when we started the process of brewing another pot of coffee the inevitable conversation started about what we had discovered the night before. We both loved coffee. We didn’t always agree on what variety we wanted on a given morning. We didn’t always drink the whole pot. And we were both a bit sick of the mess and hassle involved in brewing a pot of coffee (yeah… we can be a little lazy in the morning… first one out of bed makes the coffee). So I cracked open the laptop and started doing some research on single cup coffee makers. I assure you, I take my time when looking at products. After a day or two of looking and debating I settled on a few brands. You can see the options I considered below. These are all very good options and took considerable time (and more than a few eye rolls from my bride) for me to sort through the options. I eventually ordered the Keurig B70 single cup coffee maker. Feature for feature the best single cup coffee maker I could find.

Keurigs K cups Coffee and tea as is just one of choices. There are other great single cup coffee makers in the market.

Single Cup Coffee Makers – Staying In Comfort?

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

When you start to plan a vacation the last thing you want to worry about is comfort. Single cup coffee makers can make that stay more comfortable no matter where you are. You never need to worry where you’ll get your first cup of the morning from.

Most hotel and motel chains have complimentary breakfast or breakfast buffet in the restaurant or hotel lobby. Most of us however, enjoy a cup of coffee while we are getting ready for the day. Until, recently the convenience of a cup of coffee didn’t follow us wherever we went. Thanks to single cup coffee makers, our business or vacation trips are made a whole lot easier knowing where that first cup of coffee is coming from while we are away from home. In recent times people would rush to get dressed in their room to make it to breakfast to get that first cup of coffee before the first event of the day. Now we are beginning to nationally be able to enjoy coffee right in our rooms.

Convenience and being comfortable is what the hospitality industry is all about. The more convenient and comfortable you are the more likely you will go back to that place the next time you are in town. So if you depend on enjoying the first cup of coffee of the day you will remember when you get to enjoy it from your room. You will also remember that you weren’t as rushed to get dressed and be somewhere before you really had to be. Single cup coffee makers allow us to enjoy our comfort no matter where we are at.

Time is critical when we are not in our homes. We want to have an effective day on our business or vacation trips. Most of us do not want to rush around to have something that we usually have at our fingertips. Most hotels and motels are now providing us with that first cup of coffee without wasting any of our time. That helps us enjoy our day and finis

h our stay away from home with satisfaction. Those hotels and motels that do not provide single cup coffee makers may not enjoy the return of those of us who like that first cup of coffee just seconds away.

Being away from home isn’t always by choice. When we choose what we eat and drink no matter where we are, we usually choose what we like. So if you like to drink a hot cup of coffee first thing in the morning before you get ready for the day make sure where you stay provides single cup coffee makers.

Single Cup Coffee Makers

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

You can simply pour on hot water on coffee powder in you mug like usually I’ve done, but maybe exist better way to prepare single coffee cup? If you love the taste of fresh coffee in the morning then you’ve probably thought about buying a home coffee maker before.

That’s a lot of coffee! This might be perfect for the office or maybe a diner but the home coffee consumer doesn’t need so much volume. Another point to ponder is if you buy a large jar or canister of coffee and only require a few cups per day, stored coffee can go stale after a while.

The best solution to these problems is to look at the new generation of single cup coffee makers that combine convenience with home consumption.  Single cup coffee makers are designed from the outset for home use and those consumers who just want a better cup of coffee than that out of a jar or normal coffee pot. The best single cup coffee makers give you a higher quality brew because a lot of thought goes into the coffee making process with all components dedicated to making just one great cup of coffee at a time.

Many other coffee makers will brew more at one time but they are designed for speed not quality. One of the downsides of single cup coffee makers is that they can be more expensive than multi-cup machines. This is because the only coffee you can use is sold in single-use “pod” containers. Whilst this makes the process quick and easy there is additional packaging involved which adds to the overall cost of the end product. Quick Tip A good tip when comparing coffee machines is to visit the coffee aisle at your favorite food store and look for which brands of pod coffee are most popular.

There’s no point buying a great coffee maker if it proves difficult sourcing the required coffee pods. Also take note of the cost as there’s no point spending money on a coffee maker if you neglect to use it because the cost of coffee is too high. When comparing single cup coffee maker models you’ll notice a variation in features. Some allow you to vary the amount and strength of coffee, some will add foam or froth on top of each cup and some will do much more.

Whilst there are many options available the best approach is to start with the type and amount of coffee your prefer and work back from there. Don’t get distracted by all the bells and whistles offered by the different models if you don’t really need them. Where to Buy Single Cup Coffee Makers Like any appliance, features and prices can vary hugely making comparisons difficult. One useful way to get a good deal on a coffee machine that meets your needs is to visit your local stores and compare multiple models at once.

This lets you see what they look like, how they work, and what they can offer you. Don’t forget size and appearance too. If your entire kitchen has stainless steel appliances, a colorful plastic pot might not look right in your kitchen. Take a tape measure with you and be sure it will fit on your counter top. Once you have narrowed down your choice to one or two models, go online and compare as many reputable stores as possible. The internet makes this quick and easy. Take the results of your search and consider which supplier offers the best mix of price, service and warranty.

Comparing Keurig and Tassimo Coffee Makers

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

K cup coffee makers and the Tassimo beverage system are two of the most popular coffee machines that people buy for their homes, and their offices. As a result, people are always comparing the two against one another, and thinking about who wins the Keurig vs. Tassimo showdown. Both have their own strengths and potential weaknesses, but really, both are extremely highly rated by almost everyone. Take a look at this quick discussion on the Keurig vs. Tassimo comparison and learn more about the options that you’ll have when you’re ready to make a purchase. So what kind of coffee can you make with a Keurig coffee maker or with the Tassimo beverage system? With Keurig, you’ll be able to enjoy dozens of brands, including standouts like Newman’s Own, Green Mountain, Caribou Coffee, Diedrich Coffee Roasters, Coffee Roasters, Gloria Jean’s and Timothy’s World Coffee, to name just a handful of the most popular. There are flavored coffees, specialty beverages, and all kinds of roasts. With the Tassimo beverage system, you’ll have a bit of a smaller selection, although still some notable brands like Seattle’s Best, Gevalia and Tazo. The most notable though is Starbucks, and Tassimo is the only pod coffee machine that provides Starbucks coffee. So if you’re a Starbucks fiend, and don’t need all of the other brands, then you want to go with Tassimo. There is a wider selection of K cup coffee makers available than there are from Tassimo. They have options ranging in price from $70 up to more than $200, offering differing sizes, capacities, features, styles and more. One great feature that varies from model to model in terms of flexibility is brewing your coffee in different sizes. In the most expensive models, you can brew in five different sizes, ranging from a super small 4 ounce espresso to a large 12 ounce mug. The smallest model from Keurig has no water reservoir, working with one cup at a time, while the larger models can hold 60-70 ounces of water in the tank, great for large families and offices. Tassimo only has a handful of models, and are more consistent with their pricing, with a smaller range around $120 to $160 or so. They work really quickly, brewing coffee in 30 seconds just about, and as mentioned, offer a large selection of high quality tea, hot chocolate and other beverages in addition to the coffee itself. Are you ready to make a purchase, or do you still need some more information? The link below will fill you in with even more details on the Keurig vs. Tassimo debate. Whatever you end up choosing, you’ll find a high quality product that makes great coffee, with great convenience and no hassle. Hopefully you know more about your options and about both K cup coffee makers and the Tassimo beverage system after checking out this quick guide.
