K Cups Coffee Pros And Cons

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Hi! I recently surf in the net and found very honest and understandable conclusion about K Cups Coffee pros and cons.

Do you know what a Kcup is?  Maybe you do, maybe you don’t, but by the time you finish reading this, you will know more about K-cups than most people do!  Kcups are the ammunition for the Keurig single serve coffee brewer.  The concept and design were birthed by Green Mountain Coffee in Vermont.  These brewers pump out one cup of coffee at a time, and they do it by way of a unique brewing cup, known as the Kcup.  Each Kcup holds a single serving of coffee grounds, and a filter that is nestled inside of a cocoon of plastic and tinfoil.  The Kcup is placed inside of the brewer and when the brewer lid is closed, a metal spout pierces the foil lid of the kcup.  Hot water is then injected into the K cup and out comes the coffee.  Seems like an ingenious concept.  The Keurig brewers are enjoying a huge wave of popularity, with the estimated total sale of Kcups to be in excess of 5 billion units this year!  But is the Kcup the right choice for your daily brew?  Here are some pros and cons to help you decide…

Pros

  • Convenience – The K cup offers single serve coffee in a flash.  What could be easier than inserting a pre-measured Kcup capsule and shutting the lid?
  • Cleanup – Simply remove the spent Kcup and dispose of it into the trash.
  • Prep time – No beans to grind, coffee to measure, or pre-brewing mess to clean.
  • Precise measure -  This is where %80 of coffee drinkers go wrong.  Many folks use far less coffee than they should when brewing.  The Keurig brewing method eliminates this problem.

 Cons

  • Quality of Coffee – While the coffee in a Kcup is superior to other mass produced grocery store ground coffees, it is less than fresh.  K cups are airtight and fresh roasted coffee emits CO2 for 2 weeks after the roasting process.  If the coffee in the Kcup was fresh, they would explode.  The aging process of coffee is expedited when it is ground.  Whole bean coffee can last for weeks, while ground coffee will only remain fresh for minutes.
  • Control – There is no arguing the convenience of the Keurig brewer, but with convenience comes the loss of control.  You cannot alter the grind, water temperature, dosage, or steep time with the Keurig.
  • Cost – Kcup coffees cost about $1.50 $.80 per serving.  That is equivalent to paying $55 $30 per pound!  For that price you could enjoy some of the most exotic coffees the world has to offer for less than the mass produced Kcups.
  • Waste – Kcups are largely made of non-recyclable plastic.  While developed by a company that prides itself on their ‘Green’ image, this isn’t a ‘green’ method of coffee brewing…unless you are talking ‘greenbacks’.

Some of the cons can be eliminated with the use of the MyKcup ( a brewing basket that fits into the Keurig which you can fill with your own fresh ground coffee), but in doing so you also eliminate many of the ‘pros’.

So there you have it.  The pros and cons of the Keurig brewing system as I see it.  For me personally, I do not enjoy the Keurig brewing system, but I can see its attraction.  It does provide a simple way to make one cup at a time, and does produce a better cup than what the majority of coffee drinkers presently subject themselves to.  The bottom line is that you must choose for yourself what you want in your daily cup.  For many the Keurig is the answer, but much better can be had if you are willing to take a few extra minutes.

Despite some disadvantages, comfort and great coffee and tea selection, K Cups Coffee Maker is a smart and convenient choice.

Keurig Introduces B150, B155 Commercial K Cup Coffee Brewers

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Keurig recently introduced two new commercial level K cup coffee brewers specifically for office or home office use. These two models will be available for purchase in addition to Keurig’s already popular coffee makers such as the B70, B60, B40 and its B30 mini brewer.

The B150 and B155 commercial brewers have convenient and thoughtful features that will really shine in an office setting with multiple workers accessing the machines.

The new brewers are very adaptable and can accommodate a wide variety of cup sizes and the temperature of the individual servings is also configurable. All of these options are controlled by very easy to use touch screen interfaces. The touch screen interface on the commercial brewers will make it very easy for office workers to brew their own K cup coffee in under a minute. The convenient touch screen process on the commercial brewers walks you through the entire brewing process; this can be very helpful to people who may be new to single serve coffee and those who may not have used a Keurig brewing machine before.

In addition to ease of use, another benefit of the touch screen interface on the new commercial brewers is the fact that these new controls will operate with multiple language support. In addition to English, the touch screen controls also feature optional instructions translated to both Spanish and French.

The B150 in particular has a unique feature when it comes to refilling the machine with water. The B150 can utilize a new direct line plumbing feature that does away with the need to manually refill the water reservoir of the coffee machine. All Keurig K cup coffee machines have a removable water reservoir, but this new direct line water replenishing ability makes it even easier to integrate in an office setting with many workers relying on the same coffee brewing machine.

If no direct line water feed is available in your office, still each of the two new commercial machines feature a large 90 ounce water tank. This is the largest available water tank found on any K cup coffee brewers to date and is enough water reserve to brew 18 cups of coffee.

The Keurig B150 commercial coffee brewer features five cup sizes: 4 oz., 6 oz., 8 oz. cups and additionally 10 oz., and 12 oz travel mug sizes. The B155 single serve brewer offers four sizes in comparison, omitting only the largest 12 ounce travel mug size from the B150 list.

Green Mountain K CupsChoosing Green Mountain K Cups Coffee

There are many different brands of coffee available for consumers to buy, and while store shelves are full of the most recognized and historical brands there is another name appearing on an ever-widening basis – Green Mountain Coffee. Unlike the bulk of the other familiar names, this one has been around since only 1981, but it was one of the first to recognize the public demand for high-quality and fresh roasted coffees.

Today they are a well-known provider of signature blends, seasonal roasts, Fair Trade and organic products, the ‘Newman’s Own’ coffees, and specialty ‘K-Cup’ or single brew packets. A visit to many New England area grocery stores would reveal dozens of the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters flavored coffees as beans or ground blends, and most are available as decaffeinated versions too.

Interestingly, as time has passed and the company has grown they have taken on more of their own manufacturing and processing activities rather than transferring them to other outside providers. Recently they opened a new manufacturing and roasting plant in Washington State and they continue to expand their line of unique coffees and beverages too.

Something of interest to any fan of brewed beverages should be their unique K-Cups offerings that include both tea and coffee. These require the use of the special Keurig machines, and they create coffeehouse brews in the home or office environment. They take from thirty seconds to three minutes to brew a full-sized and single serving of the desired beverage, and most have variable cup sizes that range from four to twelve ounces each. One of the best features is that they utilize the individually packaged Green Mountain Coffee K-Cup packets.

These come as hot cocoa, different teas, and dozens of flavored coffees. These can be used in any order and the machine will still be able to provide a flawless result. For example, a home or office machine could have a single cup of ‘Breakfast Blend’ brewed and then immediately afterward someone else could use the machine to make a quick cup of green tea as well. This means that it is an ideal solution for any environment because it is remarkably flexible, and this flexibility is exploited to its greatest limits through the huge array of Green Mountain Coffee products made available for its use.

There are also many iced tea blends made to be used with th 1000 is same machine, and the Green Mountain Coffee K-Cups can be used to quickly whip up a cup of icy cold peach, raspberry, lemon or black tea too.

Another major area of their product line is the Fair Trade coffees that they sell and these come from all areas of the world and promise a premium experience with each cup brewed. A consumer can purchase an organic Mexican blend, a Kenyan Cooperative bean, a Sumatran Reserve, or a host of other flavors and roasts. Some are available for the K-Cups users too.

Any true fan of unique and delicious coffees will want to investigate the many offerings of the increasingly popular Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

K Cups Coffee Choice.

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

First time I tried k cups coffee from Keurig`s brewer last year while visiting my cousin in Sydney. I was little surprised how much he praised this technology. Honestly my first impression was like nothing special, but after about a week I was in love with K Cups technology.

A year has passed since I returned from Australia and my old coffee machine is idle. I became a fan of K-Cup.

Sometimes I still use a simple method for making coffee that is simply put in a mug two teaspoons of ground coffee and pour hot water.  This is where quite a bit lazy way and you can save on a little.

What exactly is K Cup coffee technology and why it becomes so popular?

K-Cup is a plastic container or cup with a coffee filter and ground coffee beans inside. When You place the K Cup in a Keurig brewer (I forget to say that K-Cup is Keurig`s masterpiece) the coffee machine punctures the foil lid and the bottom of the K Cup and forces hot water under high pressure through the K-Cup and into a coffee mug. System delivers the exact amount and temperature of coffee to ensure optimal flavor extraction for every serving.

The biggest advantages for me are the ease of preparation and a large selection of flavors. Time saving lets coffee lovers brew gourmet coffee, in under a minute. Pods are packed to stay fresh and free of moisture by vacuum packing.

Keurig licensees K-Cup not just to coffee roasters but tea producers as well. There are a wide variety of coffee brand names to choose from. My favorites are Green Mountain Coffee k cups, Gloria Jeans Coffee and Caribou Coffee. Tea K cups I prefer Bigelow Tea.

As I mentioned above that not just coffee k cups are available for the Keurig maker. There are big choice of hot chocolate, espresso, regular coffee, decaffeinated and various types of tea.

Service and availability in K-Cups are really great. You can choose various quantities but each package will consist of a number of pods between 108 count boxes and a couple dozen.

For example
Extra bold espresso comes in a case of two boxes, with a total of 50 K cup servings. The beans are an especially high grade. This is a very strong flavored coffee that is rich in flavor with very little bite. It does have a sweetness that can ease a sugar craving. All K cup coffee comes in single serving packages which is one of the benefits since it creates little mess. It comes from Arabica coffee beans that are found all over the world and according to Amazon, the beans are roasted in Canada.
Price: $38.95, but check for prices online, could be cheaper.

My sweet little daughter love good cup of cocoa. I like cup of chocolate too just a bit sweet for me though Green Mountain Coffee Hot Cocoa is good enough.

And turning back to beginning of my story advantages of K cups coffee and Keurig brewer by me are more than disadvantages. I found just one – a little bit more money have been spent for coffee drinking but not so much to place my Keurig coffee Master in a box.
